This article should come as no surprise as I talk about my love of sequins all the time. Well my desire for the bling just keeps growing, so I decided to expose my deepest wants in a full blown sequin confessional. Sequins are more day friendly then ever, so I intend to focus on all of the fabulous pieces I would wear from morning to night. Of course, they can take you effortlessly into evening as well, so I am here to tell a little well placed sparkle is not only versatile, but always fashion friendly...
I think the key statement in Spring '09 will be sequined jackets. Sure you always should own a good basic trench to ease you to warmer days, but I think it is time to step it up a notch!! I am coveting a multitude of dazzling little toppers right now, but my absolute must-have fav is this to-die coat from Anna Sui. I love the brown paillettes, as they are oh-so chic and day appropriate. This hot number is also fabulously eclectic with pieced panels of floral jacquard. I would dare to wear it with a complementary patterned dress as I adore this season's hodgepodge of fabric mixing!!! Now sit down for this little tidbit...this brilliant coat is only $565. Impossible!!!!
The windbreaker look is also in for all you sporty girls, but since I like to be a bit more daring and of course girly, I found this gleaming pink/purple piece of perfection...Rebecca Taylor sequined dinner jacket. It is slightly cropped and of course taps into my girly rocker fantasy. I would wear it with shorts and some sky-high heels at night, but I can promise you that it will also look day-chic over one of my summery little dresses. It is on sale on Net-A-Porter for $406. Remember don't play it so safe...have fun with your wardrobe!!! If the pop of color is a little much for you, I totally understand, so of course I found you an alternative. My newest find, the Iisli store on Bond Street (I recently featured it) HAD the most inspired sequined stunners...that is until they ran that monster sale. That said, don't despair, Net-A-Porter has the piece-de-resistance, the Tiffany Sequin Blazer in a rich aubergine. Now I suppose this would work better at night, but again, push the limits and throw it over your favorite day LBD and rock it with confidence. It is also on sale for, get this...$249 (see how I take care of you). How can you resist!!!
When it starts to get too warm to wear a jacket (I am dreaming of that day) then go for some of the gorgeous sequined tops that today's top designers are favoring. You know how much I love Gryphon. They actually built their brand off of embellished pieces so it is no wonder that their designs are always on my gotta-have-it list. I always gravitate towards green tones in the Spring and I am madly in love with this Turquoise tee shirt. It is just so fab!!!! I would wear it anytime with some of this season great new pants or of course my favorite new denim line Made In Heaven. Keep the bottom simple and let the top provide the POW. It is well priced at $275 at Intermix, but I also have a little secret for you... The Theory store in the Meatpacking District buys special pieces from other brands and they have several of the Gryphon sequin tops in a variety of colors. Who knew? One of my early cult favs was Phillip Lim and his confetti-toned sequined racerback tank is at the top of my want-list. At $395 you pay for his hot-factor, but this top is worth it!!!! Now for just a touch of bling and a wallet-friendly treat, I am loving the Silence & Noise Speakeasy Vest at my "low" go-to, Urban Outfitters for ONLY $30. So sweet and yet so hot!!!
If you are wondering why I haven't mentioned dresses, as you know how much I desire them, well this is the one and probably only time when I think other pieces standout more. Sequin dresses (in general) are better for the holidays, but if you, like me, can't live without a perfect frock, then of course I will steer you towards two that float-my-boat. Pale or nude toned sequin dresses look gorgeous for day and my new top-coveted line, Haute Hippie delivers with this barely-there sequined stunner. It too is on sale for $300 on ShopBop. Pair it with a perfect sandal and top it with a basic trench and not only will you look beyond sophisticated, but you will be sure to turn heads!!! Now for the big splurge...I am crazy about Stella McCartney's taupe, oh-so girly, sundress, yes sundress (in my world anyway)!!! Of course at $4,000, it will stay in my dreams, but if you like to throw your money around, this dress is a must-buy... Now for the one item that is making me salivate this season. I have to have these DVF sequined shorts!!! I love them so much I am almost hyperventilating...
OK, OK...I am almost done. I am bling obsessed, what can I say? If you just aren't ready to make the big statement, then ease your way into the shimmer with some simple little accessories. A perfect shopper perhaps? I adore this Marc by Marc Jacobs shopper. The soft rainbow of color will add a little excitement to any quiet outfit and at $298 it is extremely affordable. Still not with me...can I get you to try a sequined belt? If you are willing to give one a whirl, then go for this versatile shiny, silver version from Target for ONLY $14.99. Even if you hate it, you won't feel like you splurged on a mistake.
So girls, I hope I inspired you to be oh-so brilliant this spring...remember anyone can wear sequins at night, but only the most special of fashionistas can rock the bling at a moments notice. I promise, you won't look silly...instead you will be the most admired woman the room...not only because you will look oh-so fab, but because you dare to put yourself out there!!!!
