The sales/deals are slowly but surely coming to an end for the time being, so what is a shopaholic recessionista to do??? Don't despair my loyal readers...I am here to tell you that there are so many great things you can buy for yes, under $150!!! As I always say, shop smart...you don't need to spend a fortune to look great. Just train your eye to find those great values that will stump even the most trained fashion critic.
Lets start with one of the "low" go-tos I reference often, Zara. From what I have seen so far, it is going to be a great Zara season! These are the pieces that I am coveting and that you should as well. The belted elongated cardigan is still a big trend. Just look at the Burberry Spring '09 show...other than the trench, it was by far one of the most popular items. The Zara cotton cardigans are always on my list, but their new longer version is so great, that I may just have to buy it in several colors. The palette is soft and yummy, with pale tones of pink, steel blue and taupe and bolder accents of aubergine and navy. At only $36, you can almost buy them all for under $150, OK under $200. Wear them with everything this season!!! Zara is also doing python so right...their python tops are young and fresh...sexy, but work appropriate. They come in two silhouettes, a girly, blousy shape and an elasticized waist tunic. For $80 and $60 respectively, they are an amazing steal!!! Dip dye is another trend for Spring and Zara has the perfect dip dye/tie dye dress in gorgeous hues of pink, purple, green and blue. Think Burberry-meets-Rodarte for only $129.
Next...as always I need to quell my desire for Boho Chic. If you haven't yet discovered Free People, you should. They just opened their first store on lower 5th and it is worth the visit!!! Most of the merchandise is under $200, so you can't go wrong. There are so many to talk about, so definitely go to their website to browse. That said, I do want to mention one item that is on the top of my list... They have one of the best scarf selections in the city and I am madly in love with their lightweight wool watercolor version. It is oversized, super versatile and it comes in three amazing colors that will brighten up any old outfit (I am partial to the red). It is a special item for only $128...
Anthropologie has become a new fav and is a must-stop on our "low" tour. As you know by now, I am a vintage fanatic and Anthropology designs some of the best vintage knock-offs in the market. Their dresses (most are under $200) are always standouts and are the perfect summer work or weekend frocks, but what I desire most this season is their fab blouse selection. One is better than the next, but here are the 4 that I have to have!!! The Layers-Of-Memory Blouse is so Marc Jacobs Spring runway, with its Asian inspired cut and details. It is feminine and easy and only $118. The Sweet William Blouse reminds me a bit of something Luella would have shown...menswear stripes meets girly-girl with a ruffled flower placket. At $128, it is the perfect update to a more corporate work wardrobe. The Savica Waterfall Blouse would be my go to layering top. It is the perfect flowy, floral to pair with one of this season's great jackets and either skinny-legged jeans or shorts. I would also wear it over tee shirts for a great transitional look. For $98, it is a great "low". Last but not least, is the Morning Surprise Blouse for $98 as well. I adore this blouse with its special, floral brocade trim and modern ruffled placket details. Pair it with a great skirt and you have a simple, sophisticated work look. I of course, would mix it up with harem pants or shorts as I love the prim-meets-hipster look. There are so many to choose from so spend some time on the site...something for everyone.
Last but not least..I write about this store often, but I bet you still are reluctant to go. Yes, some of the merch is just downright cheap, but I promise you, they have some great items that will allow you to quench your shopping thirst and look stylish and cool...of course, I am talking about Urban Outfitters. Definitely go to the store as it is hard to tell what the product really looks like on the web. That said, I was just there so I want to share some of my great finds. I automatically gravitated towards the bags... If like me, you are planning on keeping your designer bag purchases to just one this season, UO is the perfect place to satisfy your residual desire. At the top of my list is the Twisted Hardware Doctor Bag in an amazing turquoise hue. It also comes in a sunny yellow and is only $68...unbelievable! I also adore the Deux Lux Pintuck Satchel...so Miu Miu and will give you that pop of berry you so need this season. It too is $68...crazy! And again from Deux Lux and yes, $68 is this fab sage colored, Tab Handle Bag...super chic. Finally, I just flipped for this perfect, environmentally conscious bag; I mean bag set of five from Envirosax for $38. All unique, all reusable, all stylish...bring a new one with you every time you shop!!!
I hope this inspires you to bargain hunt or at least to shop intelligently...yes, we all need our splurges, but as we muddle through this recession, satisfying our urges with a "low" mindset is oh-so smart!!! I promise, you will be just as chic, just as hip or just as ladylike as you want to be and here is the best part, you can buy so much more and still save BIG!!! The ultimate shopaholic's dream...
