The visually overwhelming vintage show hit NYC again this Friday/Saturday, which inspired me to search for great online vintage stores, as I know they vintage hunt and peck can be one big sensory overload and at times downright confusing. One of the best I found was Dulcinee, with fab finds from the 20's to the 80's and amazingly well priced designer pieces. The site is perfectly-edited, the selection is 100% wearable and even strangely modern, the sign of a great vintage proprietor.
Founded by Mauren León, a former art historian and graphic designer, Dulcinee is proof that a discerning eye and a love and understanding of fashion can result in an inspired vintage website...not an easy accomplishment. My favorite pieces are a YSL brown/olive wrap, batwing, silk dress for only $198, a dramatic plunging v-neck, black Chloe for $328 (I would shorten it), a to-die Lanvin rose patterned, black silk, draped blouse for $188 and an Edwardian, beige lace, masterpiece for $188. Dulcinee also has the classic neck tie YSL blouses in several patterns, an interesting selection of leather bags from the 1970's and beautiful print dresses from the 1930's. Mauren lists the exact measurements of each piece, so it is hard to make a mistake...vintage can be tricky from a fit standpoint. That said, I always say if you absolutely love it, just buy and get it altered...most pieces can be shortened, nipped and tucked to your very specifications.
If you are a vintage newbie, Dulcinee is a great place to start...limited choice, well-known designer names and as I already mentioned, truly relevant styles that won't make you look like a throwback nightmare. If I were you, I would quickly click to buy that Lanvin blouse, as it is one special find that I am sure will go as soon as I post!!! Happy clicking...
