I finally made it to the Save Fashion Sample/Stock Sale which launched on April 30th at the Port Authority, yes the Port Authority (641 8th Avenue/Corner of 41st Street). I would have gone to the opening party but was tied up in the SPURR sale...lucky for me Save Fashion is a month long Pop-Up! The concept is simple...give established and emerging contemporary women's and men's brands a raw space to liquidate in style. Each week the brands rotate.
Opening week had brands like Alice Ritter, Boy, Elise Overland, Gryson and Rachel Comey...the set I write about often. This week they have Helmut Lang, Gryphon, Rogan, Acne, Rag & Bone, Kiki de Montparnasse and Giles & Brother. Everything is 50% off except for the Gryphon which is marked down another 30% or so off the ticketed price. I got a fab black suede fringed vest for only $95...great deal!!! Other standout pieces were the Helmut Lang leather jackets which I have also featured (@ $650) and the Giles & Brother jewels (most under $100).
Next week they are featuring only menswear, so guys this is your chance to scoop up brands like Band Of Outsiders, Black Fleece, Rogues Gallery, Operations and many others. The final week will swing back to cool clothes for us girls with a mix much more focused to emerging brands such as Hayden Harnett, Sue Stemp, Made Her Think, Staerk, Whyred and more.
So is it worth the trip to no mans shopping land? Sure why not! Good selection, well-merchandised (it looks more like a raw store than a sample sale) and certainly well-priced!!! Even if you already have sample sale burnout, you will have an opportunity to discover brands that you might not ordinarily seek out!!! To me this is always the part that is the most worthwhile!!! Happy Shopping!
