Its all about the shoulders this season!! Every time mother nature ushers in the hot weather we feel the need to bare something...the younger set usually goes mini...surely not something everyone is comfortable with. So if super short isn't your thing, luckily a bare shoulder can be just as sexy and in many ways so much more seductive. Thigh baring hemlines are so blatant and obvious, yet when a top just gently slides off your shoulder to bare some skin not only is it unexpected, but so much more alluring!!! Find me a guy who remembers Flashdance and who still doesn't fantasize about Jennifer Beals and her cut up sweatshirts. Now I am not suggesting that you take scissors to you clothing (though why not), only that you embrace all of the great shoulder baring styles readily available this season.
Here are three Flashdance-esque tops that I highly recommend. Remember the tee shirt reigns supreme right now, so why not try one with an asymmetrical neckline, like this one from Urban Outfitters. It's only $38, how can you beat that? I love the abstract graphic! If you are anti printed tee, this design is subtle and quite chic, so don't worry you won't look like you just left a rock concert. Since it is tunic length, I would wear it with cropped leggings, some power heels and lots of bangles. Such a simple, but statement making look.
Next are my absolute fav tees from American Apparel...part sweatshirt, part lightweight tee, the Sheer Rib Raglan Pullover is the perfect Flashdance knockoff. Not only are they ridiculously comfortable (great for lounging around), but they also look great with a cami and some ripped jeans for a super stylish and yes sexy weekend look. They come in 13 colors, so you can find one that will work with just about any outfit...at $35, buy a few!!!
Finally for a real sweatshirt feel, I adore the GG 750 Oversized Boutneck Top It is much more refined than the 80's aforementioned throwbacks...super lightweight cotton/viscose adds a little drape and the softly gathered hem and cuffs are 100% designer. At $159 you do pay for the high fashion details, but I promise this piece is well worth it!!!
To top off all of these looks, try another big trend...the fedora...a nod to another 80's classic, 9 1/2 Weeks. There is just something about the proportion of a hat and an asymmetrical neckline that is oh-so fashionable and yes oh-so hot!!!!
