I just got back from a free Ian Hunter rock concert in the park...Roosevelt Park that is, which happens to be about 50 yards outside of my apartment (this is part of the River To River Festival). For those of you who are unfamiliar, Ian Hunter is an old school British rocker who has been credited with significantly contributing to the punk and metal movements of the 70's/80's. Since one of my favorite things in the world is live music, I just couldn't resist. The concert was great, but the people watching was spectacular. The crowd was beyond eclectic...old time rockers (lots of them), quintessential NYC hipsters and locals from my extremely gentrified downtown neighborhood. Of course, I took the opportunity to draw a little style inspiration from the scene and although I am most tempted to talk about cowboy boots and vintage frocks, I am going to recommend something well, lets say a little more Central Park.
Several women had on fab maxi dresses, which to me is so concert chic. I have written about maxi dresses on and off throughout the season, so it should come as no surprise that I still believe they are a must-have. They are more versatile then you think...they take you from day to night, from garden party to wedding party, from downtown to uptown and back again. They are comfort meets style, practical meets sexy and girly meets sophisticated. The dress I have decided to feature really sums up everything I have said. Tibi's Ankara Embroidered Dress is summer-in-the-park perfection!!! The redish/coral color is vibrant, the silk fabric flows beautifully and the floral embroidery give it a global sensibility. This could be my new favorite dress of the season...OK, I know I say that a lot, so lets just say it's my new favorite dress of the week!!!
This dress is so easy to style, so don't make the mistake of over-thinking...simple flat sandal, simple bracelet (don't fight with the embroidery), cute satchel...and basta! If you want to dress it up a bit more for evening, I would still stick with a flat sandal (I am not a big fan of maxis with high heels), but up the bag impact with a killer skin clutch (complimentary color please)...some fab chandelier earrings would also add some WOW.
So whether you are more Philharmonic-in-the-park, than Ian Hunter-in-the-park, this Tibi dress is perfect for our only-in-NYC, music meets fashion lifestyle!!!
