OK...so we didn't really have much of a summer. Although this week should be fabulous...low 70s and sunny, we already have that fall chill in the air. I hate it when women immediately throw on all of their cooler weather clothes as we still have a good month of summer left (at least according to the calendar). That said, I don't want you to freeze (yes a bit dramatic), so grab one of fall's best trends...the boyfriend blazer...you will look transitional chic without looking like you stepped out of a fall ad campaign.
I talk about the boyfriend blazer a lot...to me, it is simply a fashionista's best friend. Looks great with just about everything (don't overdo the layering though - don't want to look like a bag lady) and hides all of those pesky figure flaws. Go DB to hide a little extra around the middle and make sure it is just long enough to cover your entire derriere when wearing leggings, junk in the trunk or not...very few women can don leggings "au natural". Here are some of my favorite options in stores now...
I love the Erin Wasson X RVCA Beethoven Tux Jacket ($235). It is cotton, so perfect for late summer temps and it is oh-so cool. When wearing tails, make sure you stick with jeans or leggings as the proportion is a bit odd with a skirt or a dress. The high front cutaway also begs for a longer top, so choose a lengthy tee or if you can pull it off a longer shirt (a la Alexander Wang perhaps).
Next on my list is from one of my always favs...the Elizabeth & James James Blazer in Vermilion ($395). Play with color as well as proportion this season, especially during the transitional months. Just because the mercury has started to fall, doesn't mean you need to look like you are in mourning. This jacket will look great with just about anything...perfect over you new fall LBD or even better over one of your summer print dresses. I also adore the bracelet length sleeve (another big trend)... you get a more relaxed, pushed up sleeve look which plays really well against the longer jacket silhouette.
Go super modern and lose the collar with this fab Helmut Lang Shaped Blazer ($635)...homage to Armani perhaps...either way, this little number is perfect over all of your dresses or of course with jeans or leggings (yes, I am a broken record). Who needs boring old traditional when you can have angles and clean lines and of course shape!!!
Last but not least, add a little subtle bling to your transitional wardrobe with the sexy Maje Kaza Lurex Jacket ($535)...just a bit shorter and nicely fitted, it begs for a slim bottom and vertiginous shoes. Perfect for day or for night, add a little bit of rock-n-roll into your wear now-wear later wardrobe!!!
Enjoy the late summer chill in the air...embrace it, as you can start to slowly roll out your newest purchases, but remember to tread lightly right now...no heavy wools, tweeds!!! Play will proportion and always with color and you will look oh-so right now!!!
