Thank you Lucky for inspiring me to write about Michael Angel and his fab pieces of "frock-art". I love Lucky Mag on Twitter. Somehow they have figured out the right Twitter formula...product, product and more product, not a bunch of useless Tweets!!!!
Michael Angel is a unique designer/artist...conceptualizing his creations from self-produced digital and manual artwork. I have a soft spot this week for designers who also create their own textiles and/or prints. To me this is the ultimate in "artisanship"...to have the talent to not only create finished product, but to also create the very cloth the product is made from...genius!!! Michael Angel's line is tight and well-edited. His shapes are simple and versatile allowing the prints/patterns to be the main attraction. He offers 3 styles...a perfect shift dress, an easy tank top and the coming season's 80's inspired must-have leggings. Each (other than the leggings) are offered in different silks, such as silk twill, silk charmeuse, silk taffeta, etc. The abstract art designs are best served on soft, drapy fabrics so they flow with each movement of the body...creativity and grace, the ultimate combination. If for some reason all of this pattern enveloping your shape is just too much, he also offers beautiful scarves for just a touch of his mastery.
The dresses are particularly transitional...great for now and even better once the weather turns. Now they beg for fab high heel cage sandals, a great belt and a statement bracelet, but come Fall just add some tights, a belted cardigan (a look I still love) or of course a blazer and you are so modern 80's. Even though the prints are very now, they do have that retro 80's feel...less Flashdance/Pat Benetar...super chic!!! Now for the very best part...they are only $300. His new ecommerce site just launched so make sure to check it out.
