Metal embellished pieces with be hands down the must-haves of this coming Fall...zippers in particular are a key ingredient to the creation of some truly graphic and highly architectural designs. Zippers provide the hard edge and when paired with soft shape and drape, form some of the most covetable items of the season.
Here are some of my favorite pieces that yes ladies you can wear now as well.
This plum colored dress from Catherine Malandrino is to-die!!! Folded, pleated with strategically placed zipper detail...ladylike with a definite, yet subtle "metal" vibe. It is wool, but still quite lightweight and of course you can play with the zipper as the temps rise and fall. It will rock now with some killer Louboutins...pre-Fall, office chic at its finest, yet shaped to body conscious perfection.
For the slightly more modernista, this Helmut Lang number is beyond fab. The zipper detail is silhouette enhancing and the softly gathered neckline is the perfect juxtaposition...this dress demands a more aggressive shoe than the aforementioned stunner. Keep the accessories simple and let the leather trimmed zipper be the piece de resistance. In transitional viscose/silk it is a definite wear now!!!
Finally for my budget-tight readers, Geren Ford has collaborated with Urban Outfitters to create an ultra cool new line, called Hawks by Geren Ford. This cotton dress is such a great alternative to the pricier options showcased above...easy transitional shape, subtle zipper placement, just what the doctor ordered for the lazy-hazy days of August. Wear it with sandals, converse sneakers for a downtown cas vibe or dress it up with some vertiginous heels and lots of bracelets...super versatile and beyond affordable at $98.
Don't be afraid to bring some metal edge into your summer work/play attire. Zippers are perhaps a less aggressive way to start to play with the coming season's rock inspired details. Once you have embraced a little zip/tuck, you will be rearing to upgrade to some serious studs (pun intended)...more to come on that subject.
