I am about to go shopping with one of my clients. She is the quintessential NYC high heel girl...the higher the better...her closet it filled with those 6 and yikes even 7 inch (with the platform) Louboutin skyscrapers. Sometimes I get nervous just watching her maneuver. She came to me because she is about to go on a trip to Russia with her boyfriend and needs walking-friendly foot attire...yes, flats. She can barely utter the words. Trust me, I get it. Somehow I never feel quite as put together when I don't have at least 4 inchers on, but my life requires me to be on my feet all of the time, so like her, I have had to bite the bullet and embrace ballerinas and gladiators. So in honor of the transformation she is about to undergo, here are some great fall flats you should embrace.
For the women who can't live without heels and who think flats are just one big yawn, I suggest buying ballerinas with a little rocker chic attitude...studs, zippers, metallics. From left to right...Valentino Suede Studded Ballerina ($565), Louboutin Zipper Ballerina ($695), Stella McCartney Perforated Flat ($565).
If you are more of a classic high heel girl, then simplicity and a little pop of color is 100% the way to go. From left to right... Lanvin Ballet Flat ($530), Balenciaga Ballet Flat ($545), Louboutin Sonia ($565).
Next and a must have regardless of whether you are a flat or a heel wearer are leopard print ballerinas. From left to right... Louboutin Sonia Pony ($725), Manolo Blahnik Prepu ($525) and for a little lift Louboutin Peanut ($845).
Last but not least, I am sort of loving the brogue look...sure only advanced fashionistas can pull this look off, but if you have the gumption, I say go for it. From left to right...Rupert Sanderson Laura Brogues ($755), Louboutin Fred Patent Brogues ($595) and if you are really fashion confident Church's Burwood Brogues ($470).
If you don't want to spend this much money, hit my low favs like Steve Madden and Topshop for some great knockoffs. Some of the contemporary brands are doing great flats as well, so don't be so attached to designer. Quick tip...you are the only one who thinks you look too short or funny in flats...you just have to adjust your eye and you will fall in love with this oh-so comfortable and oh-so fashionable way of experiencing the world.
