So last week I had the pleasure or should I say the honor to be included in the filming of a fab new fashion "documentary" called 'Anatomy Of A Closet', which will air in September on the exciting new network, Ovation TV. If you aren't yet familiar with Ovation TV, you should be, as it is available on Time Warner (channel 83) in NYC (RCNers still have to wait a bit). If you don't live in NYC, enter your zip in the upper right corner on the website and it will give you the channel in your area. Here is a great description from the website...
"With a mission to "Make Life Creative," Ovation TV is a multi-platform network focused on entertaining, inspiring and engaging the artist in all of us by offering original and acquired programming focused on art, culture and personal creativity. The network showcases the world's greatest artists in theater, dance, opera, literature, film, visual and fine art, music, design, photography and architecture." I have mentioned it to several lucky Time Warner folks and they have told me that it is fast becoming their favorite station...so jealous I don't have it yet!!!
'Anatomy Of A Closet' is being produced by Emmy-award winning Teale-Edwards Productions. I met Sian Edwards through a friend and after a lovely meeting she asked me to be involved. Of course I was beyond flattered and quite humbled to be included in the company of some of the best fashion designers, musicians, actors and curators in the world. I can't disclose names yet...
The program concept is unique and rich with cultural, historical and anecdotal references... "The little black dress, the stiletto, blue jeans, red lipstick, sunglasses... how did all these items work their way into our wardrobes and endure the changing trends? 'Anatomy of a Closet' is a one-hour countdown that takes a look at the style icons we've come to love, and how they came to have an honored place in our style lexicon." My perspective obviously comes from my lifelong love affair with fashion and also from my insight into other women's closets and fashion psyches.
The whole experience was great...a one-on-one interview, cameras, lighting, makeup, hair, a team of about 10 people, all filmed in someone's gorgeous Richard Meier glass apartment in the sky. I focused on a few items in particular that I really feel intimately tied to...the fedora, jeans, stilettos. I was even asked to wear the fedora I brought in as you can see from the screengrab I have posted... Although this is not a pilot for a series, the hope is that it will become one and of course I am lobbying for a recurring role...(Teale-Edwards, are you reading?)...smile/wink.
